Montana based, Gastro Gnome Meals launched a Kickstarter campaign today allowing new eaters and existing fans of the backpacking food company to get their hands on upcoming flavors before they go live and helping their team meet their funding needs to get the new flavors off the ground. What are the two new flavors, you ask?! Shepherd’s Pie and Biscuits and Gravy!
Kickstarter is a platform that allows folks to be first in on a product launch by pledging a specific dollar amount – most often in return for a reward, but not always. For Gastro Gnome’s Kickstarter fund, you can pledge $33 and receive 2 of each of the new dinner menu options. If the project reaches its funding goals, they get to move forward making delicious meals for you! If they don’t reach the funding goal, you aren’t charged your pledge, but you also don’t get the meals. Helping them by pre-purchasing or just pledging without a reward allows them to purchase packaging, buy directly from farms, and get cooking in the kitchen!
About Gastro Gnome & their Flavor Concepts
If you’ve followed the Gastro Gnome journey since the beginning, then you’ve watched their kitchen craft a line of backcountry meals that is making waves in the outdoor community. They start by sourcing the best local ingredients and get cooked with technique-driven culinary expertise by Chef Shannon Waters. Whether it’s camping, backpacking, hunting, rafting, climbing- any medium of outdoor enjoyment, their freeze-dried meals ensure you never have to sacrifice flavor and quality when it comes to food in the wild. They had a goal to change what was possible for food in the wilderness, and they’ve done it. Gastro Gnome is making the best lightweight, packable meals out there. But now they’re ramping up their menu and need your help to get the project off the ground.
Last Fall, they asked their following to submit their absolute favorite meals and what they’d like to see from the Gnome kitchen next. Shepherd’s Pie and Biscuits & Gravy came through with an incredible number of requests. In true Gastro Gnome fashion, they’re working with Montana ranchers and farmers to source the best possible ingredients for these meals and testing their recipes aggressively to make sure they are just as good in their kitchen as they are when you open the bag on the side of a mountain and it’s almost time!

Meet the New Flavors

Biscuits & Gravy
Imagine waking up from a restful night under the stars and warming up a real, incredibly satisfying breakfast of Biscuits and Gravy. Our sausage is housemade with local Montana pork. We caramelize it with maple, a little bit of spice, and fresh sage. That delicious sausage is the base of our rich gravy, spiked with herbs and cracked black pepper. This gravy tops soft, buttery, and perfect house-made biscuits. You will never want another option when out camping again. This is a Biscuits and Gravy worthy of a 5-star restaurant. Kick off your day the right way with 690 calories and a belly full of happiness. Properly fuel the epic adventure you’ve planned.

Shepherd’s Pie
Now, dream up a beautiful view of the mountainscape as you start building out camp. Your tent is set up, and you’re boiling water to warm up your Shepherd’s Pie with Grass Fed Montana Beef. When you take your first bite of this, you can’t believe you’re in the wilderness, getting to experience the outdoors with an incredible, healthy, satiating meal. Rich red wine and rosemary sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, and hearty ground beef make up a Shepherd’s Pie so good, you’ll probably be eating this at home, too. Cap your long day off with hard-earned 815 gluten-free calories. You’ll never go to bed hungry or dissatisfied with a backpacking meal again.
Support the Good Food
If you know them, you may want to support their work (and there is a lot of it!) simply because you believe in them, appreciate their team and the work they do both in and out of the kitchen actively engaged in handfuls of non-profits, especially in the veteran community. On their Kickstarter, there is an open box that says “Support without a Reward.” Any dollar value will be an incredible support for their small 3-person team as they launch these two new meals. If you prefer to opt for meals and gear, there are plenty of options to pledge in return for equal amounts of meals and some of the bigger packages also offer discounts. With so many ways to show up for this crew, you’ll want to head to the site and pick which one because there is no way to lose.
