This video has quickly become one of my favorite spearfishing films. Not only does it start Justin Lee who is one of our Field Staff Writers and bad ass hunter/fisherman, but it also walks you through the process of hunting fish for food. In the very beginning, the intent of the film is discovered as a “grocery store run”.
Ryan does an excellent job of capturing the entire process from hunt to plate, and sheds light into the strategies behind their methods. The film is not only focused on the hunt. The process of preparing and eating the fish is shared with the audience. I know I will be trying out this recipe in the near future.

From Ryan: “In today’s episode I go spearfishing with Justin Lee in Hawaii to collect groceries. During quarantine here in Hawaii we are super lucky to still have access to our oceans to collect food. We have an epic day shooting lots of goat fish and collecting tako (he’e) (octopus). I get some unbelievable film of Justin hunting like a pro. We take the fish home and Sam and I take you through the whole process of how to Chinese style steam the most delicious fish in Hawaii.”
